The ISS is running another SSTV event.

The regular reader will have probably surmised that I am more SWL then transmitting Ham, so an SSTV receiving event is just perfect for me.

No talking!
It's a mixture of radio and computers.

What's not to like?

You can track the ISS with a massive crossed Yagi array, azimuth and elevation controlled by a computer, mast head pre-amp, high end radio, fast PC running SSTV decoding software.

BUT, but, a Baofeng UV5R, an antenna made out of coat hanger wire or just the supplied rubber duck, and decoding software on a 'phone works just as well.

On a previous event I stood in the garden with an Icom ID-51, rubber duck antenna, and recorded the pass to an SD card. Manually twiddling the tuning to chase the Doppler. Back indoors, I played the audio into the microphone of my laptop. It worked perfectly.

This time I am back in my shack at home, so I have a Yagi, a shiny new radio, (FT-991A) and software to chase the Doppler. (OscarWatch) I will decode on a Linux PC with QSSTV.

Best Wishes
